The Patterson Apartment Fire:

As bad luck would have it, added to the chaos at Christmas season, Mike, Deanna and their children were forced out of their apartment due to a fire.

It turns out the Pattersons' obnoxious downstairs neighbour was a careless smoker. The apartment fire was attributed to his smoldering stogie.

Lynn meets with Tom:
To get accurate information on how fire burns an apartment building, Lynn consulted with Tom, a firefighter from the City of North Bay.

Using his research and practical fire fighting experience, he explained burning patterns and how they related to oxygen supply and fire retardant building materials. He was also able to explain why smoke is more hazardous than the actual flames in a fire.

Working with Lynn's established floor plans of Lovey Saltzman's building, Tom could quite accurately foretell the damage caused by the fire, and that the building would need extensive renovations. His trade magazines were excellent visual reference! Thank you, Tom!

In Case Life Imitates Art:
With structural fires a "hot" topic of discussion at the studio, we invited two firefighters to visit, and educate us all on correct fire extinguisher usage. We discussed areas at risk within the studio, and worked with the firefighters to develop a safe exit plan, in the event of a fire emergency.
