Gone are the days when Elizabeth worked so hard to irritate her older brother, Michael. She has now grown into a beautiful, responsible young woman who followed her heart to Mtigwaki in Northern Ontario to realize her dream of teaching children in a First Nations community.
While away from home, Elizabeth experienced the fun of living life on her own, the discipline of marking homework, and the pain of a broken heart. In her second year of university Liz met Eric - a charismatic, handsome, popular jock. She moved in with him but soon found out that a book isn't always as pretty as the cover! Eric was cheating on her and she took it hard. He was supposed to be "the one". After swearing off men forever, Elizabeth met Warren on the bus back to school for her third year at Nipissing University. Although their friendship never had time to become a real relationship, Warren helped Liz renew her confidence. She needed it when Constable Paul Wright came into her life - their relationship had been becoming serious, but when Liz moved home from Mtigwaki Paul did not wish to follow, so Liz spent some time on her own before tentatively starting to date her old friend and former boyfriend, Anthony Caine.
Elizabeth's relationship with her well-meaning family continues to be a rich tangle of love, anxiety, togetherness, rebellion, devotion, frustration, friendship and mild hysteria. Elly still worries, knowing that her daughter is changing every minute. While Liz doesn't reveal everything to her mom, she shares enough information to make her happy, and when necessary accepts her advice. She can't believe how fast her younger sister is growing up and that her brother is now a father - making her an aunt twice over!
